Nora4 and Edna2 lamps have been designd so that it is fairly straightforward to change the JST connector that lives in the battery box, if these are damaged or start to break down over time. A tell tell sign of this might be unstable / flickering light output from lamp.
This is the basic procedure for swapping out JST lead for Nora4 and Edna2 lamps . Best practice for older Nora lamp models may vary. Use your initiative, or contact us if uncertain.
Remove the cable gland from the battery box (spanner required). Note, it is not generally necessary to split the two parts of the cable gland. Mark the red lead +ve, as polarity is important.
The red JST plug will poke / pull on out through the threaded hole in battery box, with a little initiative. However, as it is being replaced then its easier just to snip cable off, and remove.
Then snip off lead where the red / black JST leads join the main cable (under the red heatshrink). Remove old heat shrink sleeving to expose main cable ends, and tidy up stripped ends of main cable ready for new JST lead. Reminder, note which one connected to positive (red) and which one connected to negative (black).
Slide new heat shrink sleeve over new 100mm silicone JST lead. After soldering you can slide heatshrink over joints and shrink it in place (a cigarette lighter works if you dont have a heat gun). We now tend to fit 3 bits of heatshrink ! One on red lead and one on black lead, and then a 3rd larger diameter piece that will go over both of these.
Tip - It is easier to solder if you get the heat shrink well out of the way !!
Now you can solder on the new JST lead
Tip - a good point to check that the little O ring on the gland is not damaged, and replace if necessary.
Just like this
and shrink the heatshrink. Firstly the two smaller diameter 'red' pieces individually over the red and black leads.
and then the larger diameter 'black' heatshrink over the top of the two smaller diameter 'red' pieces.
(Heatshrink colour obviously not important).
Now poke the new JST plug through the threaded hole in to the battery box.
Note - JST plug does fit through the threaded hole !!
Refit cable gland (spanner required), taking care not to be too brutal obviously.
A dab of threadlock on cable gland thread is good practice!
Voila. Job done .....
